It’s Christmas in July!
For those of you who do your holiday shopping really early, or at least your holiday thinking early, I thought it would be a great time to plant some gift ideas in your head for yourself and for all those on your gift list this year (including yourself).
Each Monday in July, I’ll be sharing a gift idea a day. Besides finding something for your sweet self (because you know you’ve been good), you might also be inspired to share one of these gifts with an aromatherapy colleague, student, mentor, or your essential oil-loving BFF!
Whatever celebration you honor in December, there is undoubtedly gift-giving involved. Check back every week to see what I’ve added to the list!
Wish List Gift Idea #1 – A Subscription to a Professional Trade Journal
International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy (IJPHA)
I try to never miss an issue of this beautiful journal. The International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy is not a digital download, but a high quality, hold-it-in-your-hands-and-turn-the-pages physical publication. This peer-reviewed journal is dedicated to providing the professional holistic practitioner with useful information and resources to enhance their practice and expand their “toolbox.” The IJPHA is part of a world-wide community contributed to and read by aromatherapists, nurses, integrative medical practitioners, scientific researchers, and educators. You can download a digital issue for free.
The Aromaculture Magazine
This is a brand new digital journal (instant download = no waiting!) that has it’s focus on both Herbalism and Aromatherapy. The AromaCulture Magazine features articles, recipes and case studies from some of the most well loved herbalists, aromatherapists and holistic health professionals in our industry. You’ll find so much wisdom in one place that you can’t help but grow, be inspired, and learn! You’ll definitely want to get the current Deluxe Holiday Issue.
International Journal of Clinical Aromatherapy (IJCA)
The International Journal of Clinical Aromatherapy presents solid practitioner-orientated and evidence-based information in a very professional format. All articles are peer reviewed and referenced where possible. Members of the editorial board are all highly experienced in the essential oil industry. I especially appreciate that each issue has a specific theme, such as “The Respiratory System” with the majority of articles contributing information on the topic for that issue. Two issues are published per year. Be sure to check out the free supplement that explores what we mean by the titles “Clinical Aromatherapist”!
Aromatherapy Acology Today
Previously sold under the name of Aromatherapy Today, this trade journal has a new look and a new name! Aromatherapy Acology Today is still, after 20 years, a physical publication that has been informing Aromatherapists, Nurses, Health Care Workers and Natural Therapists of all modalities with detailed essential oil profiles, up to date research, special events in the aromatics industry and ongoing articles by leading Aromatherapists from Australia and Overseas. Their aim is to offer a progressive journal that moves with the times and provides readers with the latest information and research being undertaken in the aromatics industry globally.
Essential Herbal Magazine
The Essential Herbal actually focuses more on herbs than essential oils, but it’s a personal favorite as I find it not only fun and informative but downright charming. I admire the two sisters that publish it, and this little gem is local to me here in Pennsylvania. The magazine describes itself as “a herb magazine that you can prop up on the kitchen counter while trying recipes, take along to the natural food store, herb shop, or garden center to help you shop for the best stuff.” They originally called it an “herbal newsletter,” but since early 2004 when they began running 32 pages, it became an “herbal magazine.” There are 6 issues per year.
Okay, there you have it,

Liz, what wonderful suggestions, this is perfect ! I love my Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy and will start getting the Essential Herbal Magazine, I remember you showing it to us during my Aromatherapy Certification Program.
Hi Sally, and Hurray! I’m glad so glad you get the IJPHA, because as a professional aromatherapist, which you are my dear, this will add so much to your education. Even the advertisements are educational 🙂 . Lovely to hear from you Sally!
Good suggestions! I’ve started using Flower essences in my therapy practice and people are really loving it! I wonder if this magazines also refer to FE?
Hi Kathy, it’s possible that you might find an article on Flower Essences, but I don’t know of any specific publication. Liz
